About Me

Education Writer and Editor

SarahRoggioI focus on educating audiences about a variety of topics. My projects have included:

  • writing Grade 3-12 nonfiction books on such topics as WNBA star Caitlin Clark, anime and manga artists, and predator vs. prey battles
  • working with early childhood educators Gillian Dowley McNamee and Jie-Qi Chen to edit their book Listening to Learning: Assessing and Teaching Young Children
  • writing website and promotional content for Innovate + Educate’s Claim Your Talent campaign, designed to close the U.S. skills gap

Journalist

I started my career as a journalist and I’ve written and edited hundreds of articles for a number of publications, including The Ithaca Journal, The Lowell Sun, The Concord Journal, The Acton Beacon, The Maynard Beacon, The Saratogian, Walking magazine, and National Home Center News. I also have a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Thanks to this training, I am adept at researching unfamiliar topics, interviewing experts, and writing and editing content on deadline that clearly explains the most important points to readers.

Instructional Designer

Prior to launching my freelance business, I built on my journalism skills while working as an Instructional Designer for Kaplan University. I collaborated with faculty members to create online courses and instructional materials on such subjects as education, communication, math, science, psychology, and sociology. I can help a team of experts set, reach, and assess project goals, and I can translate subject-specific jargon into language that a general audience can understand.

Adventurer and Lifelong Learner

sarahroggio_aapMy family instilled in me a love of adventure. When I was a teenager, my parents, my younger sister, and I hiked all 48 4,000-foot mountains in New Hampshire. Today, my husband and I explore the world and perfect our sailing skills on Lake Michigan. I love to keep learning and seeing what new wonders the world holds!
